ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif expressed his resolve to unite all opposition parties and said that a joint course of action of the opposition would be announced in the next few days.
Shehbaz expressed these views, while talking to media on Tuesday after a meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad. The PML-N leaders, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Ayaz Sadiq, and Khawaja Saad Rafique also attended the meeting.
Shehbaz Sharif said that encouraging discussions were carried out on political situation and other important issues of the country in the meeting. He said that All Parties Conference (APC) would soon be held. "We had a good conversation with Maulana and are in consensus. We will sit together with other opposition parties and take this consultation session forward," he said.
The opposition leader also lashed out at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government and said that there was no shortage of sugar during his tenure, and on the other hand, oil prices were at the lowest level in the world but now petroleum prices have skyrocketed in Pakistan.
Maulana Fazalur Rehman welcomed Shehbaz Sharif's arrival at his residence and expressed desire of a joint strategy by opposition against the government. He said that they had a good meeting and that the opposition was well on their way to arriving at a common platform.
He said that division between opposition parties was not in the interest of the country. He said that the meeting of small opposition parties was postponed due to the sad demise of Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo. He said that a meeting of small opposition parties and the APC would be convened and reservations of all the parties would be addressed.
Maulana said that opposition parties were firm on working together towards a joint strategy. "We want all the opposition parties united on a joint strategy," he said. According to the sources, Shehbaz Sharif had been asked by the PML-N Quaid and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to establish contact with Maulana Fazalur Rehman to dispel his apprehensions about unity among the ranks of the opposition.
