ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Metrological Department has warned that another monsoon rain bearing system is likely to enter Sindh on Saturday, and heavy rainfall may further aggravate existing urban flooding/water logging in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, and Badin, on Sunday and Monday. Heavy downpour may generate flash flooding in Sibbi, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, and Dera Ghazi Khan, during the period, it added. According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), 106 people have died including 47 children across the country during the current monsoon spell, and 52 others have been injured.

Sindh topped the list with 34 deaths followed by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 29 and Balochistan 15. Further, according to the overall preliminary report of damages of infrastructure and private properties, 279 properties were damaged, while 900 were damaged partially. The NDMA has provided 6,800 tents in Sindh, 2,100 in Balochistan, and 72 in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the daily flood/base flow data obtained from India, keeping in view the higher water level in Mangla reservoir (1,239.75 feet), and expected rains over the upper catchments of all the major rivers especially upstream Mangla, which may result in increasing discharge of surplus water from Mangla Dam.

The authority stated that heavy rains were recorded in Sindh.

The Met department further stated that under the influence of new system rain/wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy to very heavy falls, are expected in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Dadu, Tharparker, Nagarparker, Mirpurkhas, Islam Kot, Umar Kot, Sanghar, Sukkur, and Larkana from Saturday (evening) to Monday.

Further, rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are also expected in Lasbella, Khuzdar, Awaran, Barkhan, Zhob, Musa Khel, Loralai, Kohlu and Sibbi during Sunday and Monday.

Rain-thundershower are also expected in Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanpur, Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, and Sahiwal, during the period.
