LETTER: The Pakistan Metrological Department has warned that another monsoon rain bearing system is likely to enter Sindh from today, and heavy rainfall may further aggravate existing urban flooding/water logging in Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, and Badin today and tomorrow.
The Met office’s announcement is indeed very frightening. This has made us feel nervous and worried because the city of teeming millions, Karachi, has already been battered by the monsoon rains. The Thursday’s downpour has already caused immense misery to people in Karachi where waist-deep rivers of floodwater swept down streets, homes and businesses. Moreover, a large number of people have died due to electrocution and house collapse following torrential rains. Rains have brought misery to millions of Karachi residents. It is, however, heartening to note that the federal government has lent a helping hand to a beleaguered Sindh government to deal with the situation.
