ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has advised all local administrations to remain vigilant as threats of floods remain valid at vulnerable locations.
According to the NDMA, civil administration and army have been mobilised to help citizens overcome the devastating effects of the floods. Teams of army and civil administration have evacuated 175 families from Yousaf Goth, Sarjani Town and adjoining Goths, district Karachi.
Similarly, 299 persons have been evacuated using 10 boats in district Dadu, says the NDMA, monsoon 2020 daily situation report. It says that foods have been distributed among 18,300 individuals as well as 12,000 water bottles were distributed among flood victims.
The report says that 400-bedded relief camp has established at Expo Centre is extendable up to 500 beds. Similarly, another 50-bedded hospital has established in SGD Surjani. Army mobile recovery vehicles are deployed at various choke points to shift vehicles stuck in the flood to keep flow of traffic, it says. It says that 163 people have lost their lives in different parts of the country.
Out of 163, 61 died in Sindh, 48 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 17 in Balochistan, 16 in Punjab, 11 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 10 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The report says that River Indus at Kalabagh, Chashma, Guddu and Sukkur and River Jhelum at Mangla are in low flood level. Flows are expected to increase significantly in rivers, streams and local nullahs.
All other major rivers are at below low flood level. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) strong rainy system is likely to approach upper parts of the country that will produce widespread rain with heavy fall at a number of places in the Punjab, upper KPK, GB/AJK till Tuesday.
Heavy to very heavy falls are also expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sargodha, Mianwali, Khushab, Toba Tek Singh from Monday to Wednesday.
Heavy falls may also likely in Rajanpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Khanewal, Zhob and Barkhan. Heavy to very heavy falls are also expected in Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Kohistan, Haripur, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Charsadda, Swabi, Mardan, Kohat and Kurram from Monday to Wednesday.
Heavy rainfall may generate urban/flash flooding and land sliding in vulnerable areas from Monday to Tuesday. Flows are expected to increase significantly in rivers, streams and local nullahs.
During past 24 hours, rain-thundershower occurred in Sindh, Punjab, Upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Eastern Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
