KARACHI: Despite Covid-19 lockdown, Mehran Commercial Enterprises (MCE), an auto interior parts manufacturer, has succeeded in exporting its products to the UK.
According to Mashood Khan, former chairman of Pakistan Association of Automotive Parts & Accessories Manufacturers (PAAPAM) and director exports MCE, the export order was based on parts for the tractor industry and most of the parts were interior cabin parts for the tractor made in Pakistan. He said that it was difficult but the MCE team was able to accomplish the task due to thorough commitment and dedication.
Moreover, he said that although MCE was at an initial level in exports, yet it had learned over the time how to improve different processes involved in increasing production and quality, reduction of costs, how to represent ourselves globally and find customers etc.
Mashood advised all companies to explore new opportunities and added that the government also started a National Export Training Program (NETP), which he termed a good imitative to explore international export markets.
"If the government wants to achieve high turnover in exports then they have to build capacity, conduct market research and incentivize exporters for at least five years," he said.
Mashood said that presently there were immense internal and external issues that hindered the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Pakistan, which needed to be addressed on a war-footing as the SMEs could play the role of a catalyst in mobilizing industrial activities in the country.
