ISLAMABAD: The prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a mixed trend as some registered a slight increase, while others remained unchanged on high side during the last week as compared to the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder on Saturday.
Traders and wholesalers in different markets of Rawalpindi/Islamabad said that prices of most of the essential kitchen items remained on the high side during the last week, and no significant decline was observed in the prices.
Traders said that due to heavy monsoon rains prices of vegetables and fruits were expected to increase in weeks to come due to short supply and increased demand.
However, chicken and egg prices increased, while some fruits prices registered a slight decline.
During the week under review, eggs were sold at Rs130-135 per dozen during the week under review compared to Rs115 per dozen during the previous week.
Chicken price increased from Rs4,800 per 40kg to Rs5,000 per 40kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs135 per kg against Rs120 per kg, and chicken meat from Rs175 per kg to Rs230 per kg.
During this week, ghee/cooking oil prices witnessed no significant change as second-grade ghee/cooking oil in wholesales market is available at Rs2,520 per carton of 16 packs, which in retail is being sold at Rs170-180 per pack, and first-grade cooking oil/ghee is being sold at Rs1,260 per 5 litre bottle.
Rice prices also remained stable during this week as the best quality Basmati rice is available at Rs6,150 per 40kg and second best quality at Rs5,450 per kg, while broken Basmati rice price at Rs4,000 per kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs180, Rs170, and Rs115 per kg respectively.
Sugar in wholesales market is available at Rs4,600 per 50kg bag against Rs4,650 per 50kg bag, which in retail is being sold in the range of Rs97 per kg to Rs105 per kg with no significant change during the week past.
During the week, vegetables prices witnessed an increasing trend as best quality potatoes were sold at Rs350 per 5kg, while normal is available at Rs300 per 5kg, while in retail market best quality potatoes are being sold at Rs70-75 per kg, while normal at Rs65-70 per kg.
Onion price went up from Rs200 per 5kg to Rs250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs55 per kg against Rs50 per kg.
Tomato price went down from Rs275 per 5kg to Rs250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs50-60 per kg against Rs65-70 per kg.
Garlic price remained stable at Rs700 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs180 per kg, and ginger price remained stable at Rs2,200 per 5kg, which in retail market is being sold at Rs500 per kg.
Arvi is being sold at Rs100 per kg compared to Rs120 per kg.
Green chili price witnessed significant decline during the week past as it was available at Rs50-60 per kg compared to Rs100 per kg during the previous week.
During the week under review, prices of most of the pulses remained stable as moong is being sold Rs260 per kg, maash from Rs240 per kg, best quality Lobia Rs270 per kg, masoor Rs160 per kg, and chana Rs145 per kg.
The packed milk prices also remained stable in the market and were available up to Rs1,780 per carton.
Overall fruit prices witnessed a mixed trend as best quality white apple price went further down from Rs150 per kg to Rs130 per kg, while normal is available in the range of Rs100-120 per kg against Rs120-135 per kg, Gajja apple is being sold at Rs120 per kg against Rs130 per kg.
Good quality banana is being sold at Rs80 per dozen, while normal quality at Rs60-70 per dozen against Rs70-80 per dozen.
Various qualities of peach were available in the range of Rs150-250 per kg against Rs100-225 per kg.
Mangoes are available in the range of Rs90-200 per kg, apricot at Rs150 per kg against Rs160 per kg, and grapes at Rs200-250 per kg.
