Opposition will neither resign nor stage sit-in against govt, says Sheikh Rasheed
- Minister says PM is committed to wipe out the menace of corruption from the country
(Karachi) Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has said that the opposition is weak and its leaders will neither resign, nor stage a sit-in (Dharna) against the PTI-led government.
He added Prime Minister Imran Khan is committed to eradicate the menace of corruption from the country.
Addressing a press briefing in Lahore on Friday, he said that his disclosure regarding meetings of opposition party leaders with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa has brought a storm in country's politics.
The railways minister stated, "It is an honour to meet army's top brass but opposition parties gave a different colour to the matter."
Rasheed maintained, "If I make telephone data and call records of political leaders public, it will result in chaos in the country."
Regarding former premier Nawaz Sharif's political future, Sheikh Rasheed said the PML-N leader's politics has come to an end. "I don't blame anyone but it is Maryam Nawaz who destroyed Nawaz Sharif's political career."
ML-1 Project
He said that the government is striving to improve the condition and standard of railways with the help of China. "After the coronavirus outbreak, railways has been facing financial crisis but we hope to overcome it," he said.
He said that the Main Line-1 (ML-1) project of Pakistan Railways would prove to be a game changer not only for creating jobs, but also boosting economic activities in the country.
The minister said the ML-1 is the most important segment of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). "The mega project is important for welfare and social uplift of people, especially the railways employees."
