LAHORE: Group leader All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Gohar Ejaz has said that true implementation of the textile policy would not only bring new investment but also enable the textile industry to achieve the target of $30 billion exports in next five years.

He was addressing the 64th Annual General Meeting of APTMA Northern Zone (Punjab Zone) on Wednesday. He said ad-hoc policies would not work to strengthen exports of the country and time has come to implement a long-term textile policy in letter and spirit.

According to him, Pakistan has an export potential of $50 billion provide that the local industry is extended regionally competitive energy tariffs and business-friendly environment.

He congratulated the new leadership for the central management of APTMA, including Adil Bashir as Chairman, Zahid Mazhar as Senior Vice Chairman and Hamid Zaman as Vice Chairman. He also extended his congratulations to the zonal managements in South and North.

He said the textile industry has pinned high hopes on new central Chairman Adil Bashir who has already successfully served the industry as Chairman APTMA Punjab during the last two year.

The outgoing Chairman of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) Punjab Adil Bashir spoke at length and expressed the hope that the new leadership of APTMA Northern Zone will leave no stone unturned to attend all pending matters and especially the approval of Textile Policy for next five years to double exports. Adil Bashir has now been elected unopposed as central Chairman APTMA for 2020-21.

In his key-note address to the AGM, Adil urged the new leadership of APTMA Punjab to focus on removal of upfront incidentals on the import of raw materials both cotton and polyester which is short for industry consumption.

Also, he urged the Punjab leadership to work for long term specialized energy tariffs for industry of both gas and electricity.

According to him, there is also a need for further investment enablers for the industry to achieve growth and production of exportable surplus to double the exports which included fast track establishment of Integrated Textile & Apparel Parks equipped with all facilities for local and foreign investors and maintaining a market driven exchange rate policy.

Adil said he had successfully managed to resolve the issues like continuation of special gas tariff package for industry till June 2021 during his tenure as Chairman APTMA Punjab.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdul Rahim Nasir, the newly-elected Chairman APTMA Northern Zone, thanked Group Leader Gohar Ejaz for showing confidence on him and for his consistent concerted efforts in promoting textile industry and upsurge in country’s exports to earn valuable foreign exchange.
