LAHORE: Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly and PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Monday complained to the presiding judge of the accountability court against the NAB officials for treating him in inhumane and humiliating manner in jail.
The presiding judge responding to Shehbaz's complaint said the court will not tolerate any inhumane treatment during detention and that the court orders will have to be followed in letter and spirit as long as the accused is in custody. Further expressing his indignation, the judge said he would not tolerate any humiliation of prisoners. "I will take notice if there are any complaints in future," he added.
While giving his statement to the accountability court, Shehbaz said he was in custody on the court's orders, but it was his basic right to receive medical treatment for his back pain which he has been suffering from since 25 years. The PML-N leader told the court that he used to ask for assistance in changing the position of his chair for prayers, but he was refused assistance from jail officials.
Shehbaz also alleged that instead of serving him food on a table, as was usual, his food is now being placed on the floor. "This is being done deliberately so that I have to bend to pick it up. It is happening at the behest of Imran Khan and Shehzad Akbar," Shehbaz alleged.
He warned that he would register an FIR against the prime minister and his aide on accountability Shehzad Akbar if anything happens to his health. Shehbaz also condemned the case of high treason registered against Nawaz Sharif.
On this, the NAB prosecutor said Shehbaz Sharif had been kept in a special room and not in a jail cell and that he was also being allowed to ask for food from his own home. The judge said, "It is not acceptable at all that a prisoner be served food on the ground." The prosecution also informed the court that warrants of wife of Shehbaz Sharif, Nusrat Shahbaz and daughter Rabiya have been served. The jail authorities also produced Hamaz Shahabaz before the court. Shehbaz and Hamza met in the court and hugged.
Shehbaz Sharif also asked Hamza about his health as he was suffering from corona. The court adjourned to October 13 the proceedings in reference against Shehbaz and his family in money laundering case.
