ISLAMABAD: Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed another hike during this week comparing the preceding one, a survey carried out by Business Recorder revealed here on Saturday.
The survey observed significant increase in egg prices which jumped from Rs139 per dozen to Rs160 per dozen in wholesale market, and created a new national record beating previous of Rs139 per dozen. Traders told this correspondent that in the absence of no check and balance, everyone is free to charge, whatsoever prices they like.
Wheat flour price further increased from Rs985 per 15kg bag to Rs990 per 15kg bag, sugar prices further jumped to Rs4,800 per 50kg bag to Rs4,810 per bag, chicken price also jumped from Rs5,800 per 40kg to Rs6,600 per 40kg, and tomatoes prices jumped from Rs500 per 5kg to Rs525 per 5kg.
In retail, wheat flour is being sold at Rs1,030 per 15kg bag against Rs1,200 per bag, sugar at Rs110 per kg against Rs105 per kg, chicken at Rs190 per kg against Rs160 per kg, tomatoes at Rs125 per kg against Rs120 per kg, and eggs at Rs170 per dozen against Rs150 per dozen.
Moreover, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) during this week witnessed an increase of Rs120 per 11.8 kg domestic cylinder which jumped from Rs1,450 per cylinder to Rs1,570 per cylinder.
However, during the week under review, pulses' prices remained stable as moong is being sold at Rs240 per kg, lentil mash at Rs240 per kg, lentil gram at Rs140 per kg, best quality bean lentil from at Rs260 per kg, masoor lentil at Rs140 per kg, and whole gram lentil at Rs150 per kg.
No changes were witnessed in milk prices during the week under review as packed milk prices including Nestle milk pack and Olpers are being sold at Rs40 per 200ml pack.
Ghee and cooking oil prices also remained stable as B-grade ghee/cooking oil brands such as Phool and Fauji are available at Rs185 per 900gram pack, and best quality ghee/cooking oil such as Dalda/Sufi at Rs260 per litre pack.
Spices' prices are stable at Rs75 per 25gram pack, while red chilly powder price decreased from Rs1,000 per kg to Rs850 per kg, and turmeric powder price at Rs380 per kg.
The survey observed mixed trend in the prices of vegetables as spinach price went down from Rs35 per kg to Rs30 per bundle, and peas price further jumped from Rs900 per 5kg to Rs1,100 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs140 per kg against Rs190 per kg.
The ginger prices in wholesale market went down from Rs3,000 per 5kg to Rs2,500 per 5kg, while in retail it is being sold at Rs600 per kg against Rs700 per kg, and Chinese ginger price went down from Rs2,100 per 5kg to Rs1,600 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs500 per kg against Rs600 per kg.
Garlic prices went down from Rs800 per 5kg to Rs700 per 5kg, which in retail are being sold at Rs180 per kg against Rs200 per kg.
Bean price went up from Rs400 per 5kg to Rs430 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs95-100 per kg, pumpkin price went up from Rs220 per 5kg to Rs250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs60 per kg against Rs50 per kg, okra price went further up from Rs225 per 5kg to Rs250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs60 per kg against Rs55 per kg, bitter gourd price went down from Rs400 per 5kg to Rs250 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs65 per kg against Rs90 per kg.
Capsicum price went further up from Rs700 per 5kg to Rs950 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs220 per kg against Rs180 per kg, tinda price went up from Rs350 per 5kg to Rs500 per 5kg, which in retail is being sold at Rs120 per kg against Rs85 per kg.
Fruit prices witnessed an increasing trend as best quality Gaja apple was being sold at Rs110 per kg against Rs90 per kg, while normal at Rs70-85 per kg against Rs65-75 per kg, best quality Golden Apple at Rs95 per kg against Rs85 per kg, while normal at Rs70-80 per kg against Rs60-70 per kg, best quality Pakistani banana at Rs55 per dozen against Rs75 per dozen, while normal at Rs35-45 per dozen against Rs45-55 per dozen, best quality grapes at Rs300 per kg against Rs275 per kg, while normal in the range of Rs120-190 per kg.
Guava price remained stable at Rs65 per kg, while Nawabpuri chonsa mango price further went up from Rs190 per kg to Rs230 per kg, and sweet orange price witnessed no change, which is being sold at Rs150 per dozen. New arrival, pomegranate price went up from Rs160 per kg to Rs175 per kg, and Japani fruit price went up Rs70 per kg to Rs80 per kg.
