At least 10 persons including activists of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf were killed in different areas of the city on Sunday, police said. In the first incident, a PPP worker was gunned down in New Karachi area in the limits of Bilal Colony police station.
Police said unknown armed men barged into a shop situated in New Karachi and opened indiscriminate fire. As a result, Aamir Gabol, 42, son of Shaukat Gabol, sustained multiple injuries and was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
No case was registered till filing of this report. In another incident, two people including an activist of PPP were shot dead at Pir Mehfooz Road in the jurisdiction of Malir City police station.
Police said the deceased, identified as Usman Baloch and Akbar Baloch, were on their way to somewhere when armed men riding motorcycles emerged and opened fire on them. In the attack, they sustained multiple injuries and were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment, where doctors pronounced Usman as dead, while Akbar succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police said Usman was a worker of PPP.
Unidentified gunmen shot dead a CID personnel in sector 5-E, Orangi in the limits of Orangi Town police station. Official said the victim, Anees Ahmed, 32, son of Sain Ahmed, was targeted by unidentified motorcyclists.
The body was shifted to ASH for postmortem. Separately, a man was shot dead near Two Swords, Clifton in the limits of Clifton police station.
He was identified as Dilwer, 24, resident of Mehran Goth. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgradute Medical Centre for medico-legal formalities. Sources said the deceased was the worker of Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
A bullet-riddled body of a young man was found from Victory Ground, Malir, in the limits of Malir City police station. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained till filing of this report.
In another incident, a man was gunned down in Baldia in the limits of Saeedabad police station. Police said that the victim was identified as Uzair. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
Separately, a man was shot dead in Manghopir in the jurisdiction of Manghopir police station. Police said that the victim, Masood, was shot by armed pillion riders.
A handcuffed body of a man was found near City Court in the limits of Risala police station. The identity of the victim could not be ascertained till filing of this report. A man, Rehan Jokhio, was shot dead at Malir bus stop in the limits of Model Colony police station.
Meanwhile, a bomb planted near a Ranger's vehicle went off on late Sunday night at Dawood Chowrangi, Landhi. At least five people including four Ranger personnel injured in the blast, who were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. SSP Malir Rao Anwar said the bomb was locally-made and containing approximately one to one and half kilograms explosive materials.
