ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday acquitted Prime Minister Imran Khan in 2014 Parliament House attack case.

ATC judge, Raja Jawad Abbas, while announcing its reserved judgment acquitted Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Parliament House attack case.

However, it has summoned Minister for Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood, and Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, provincial minister Aleem Khan, and Shaukat Yousafzai as well as former general secretary PTI Jahangir Tareen on November 21 for indictment.

The court had reserved its verdict on Khan’s acquittal application on October 26.

Due to the presidential immunity granted to President Arif Alvi under Article 248 of the Constitution, no criminal proceedings whatsoever shall be instituted or continued against him during his term in office.

The court also acquitted Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) worker Mubashir Ali in the case, while the party’s chairman Tahirul Qadri was declared a “fugitive”.

On September 1, 2014, hundreds of men, alleged protesters from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) camps, had allegedly ransacked the office of the PTV and the parliament premises, and brutally beaten up a senior police official, less than 24 hours into his first day on the job as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) operations.

Prime Minister Khan, PAT Chief Tahirul Qadri and several others were booked over their alleged involvement in the attack during the 2014 sit-ins in the capital.
