Ships carrying wheat, sugar arrive in Pakistan

  • Pakistan is facing some 2.5 to 3 million metric tons shortage of wheat due to lower crop output during this season. Initially, the federal government allowed duty-free import of 3 million tons of the commodity including 1.5 million tons through TCP and the same quantity allocated to the private sector.

In order to mitigate flour and sugar crisis pertaining to the country, additional cargoes of wheat and sugar imported by the government have started arriving in Pakistan.

As per details, the fourth ship of wheat imported by Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) carrying 52,170 MT of wheat anchored at Port Qasim while another ship carrying 50,000 MT of sugar will reach the country on Saturday.

It is expected that with the arrival of imported sugar, the shortage of sugar in the country will be overcome.

According to TCP officials, out of the total wheat imported this month, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has so far picked up 110,000 metric tonnes of wheat, while the Punjab government has also collected 56,457 metric tonnes of wheat from imported wheat. Has taken

According to officials, the wheat coming from the fourth plane will be taken by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.

According to TCP, another ship carrying 50,000 metric tonnes of imported sugar is arriving in Karachi on Saturday. A ship carrying 25,000 metric tonnes of sugar has been offloaded with 3,500 metric tonnes of sugar. The imported sugar will be handed over to the Punjab government which will be sold below the market rate.
