KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 97,966 tonnes of cargo comprising 72,312 tonnes of import cargo and 25,654 tonnes of export cargo including 3,769 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargos of 72,312 tonnes comprised of 26,280 tonnes of containerised cargo; 4,529 tonnes of bulk cargo; 3,914 tonnes of sugar; 6,175 tonnes of DAP; 14,078 tonnes of wheat and 17,336 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 25,654 tonnes comprised of 20,927 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,504 tonnes of loose bulk cement and 3,223 tonnes of mill scale.

As many as 3,769 containers comprising of 1,894 containers import and 1,875 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 309 of 20's and 664 of 40's loaded while 01 of 20's and 128 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 471 of 20's and 538 of 40's loaded containers while 26 of 20's and 151 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were five ships namely Cosco Belgium, Cosco Rotterdam, Cosco Aden, MT Shalamar, Bow Cardinal and Lucky Trader carrying containers, oil tanker, chemical and mill scale respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were four vessels viz. MTM Savannah, Kouros, Unison Jasper and Mohar carrying oil tankers, fertilizer and cement respectively currently at the berths.

There is one ships namely PAC Acrux carrying general cargo expected to sail on Thursday.

There are five vessels viz. MOL Generosity, Nordspring, Pamba-1, Chemroute Sky and CL Lindy carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo due to arrive on Thursday while four vessels viz. Wan Hai-613, Sunray, Pioneer Star and Jin Bo carrying containers, oil tanker, cement and general cargo respectively are expected to arrive on Friday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 192,700 tonnes comprising 142,692 tonnes of import cargo and 50,008 tonnes of export cargo including 4,841 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

The total import cargo of 142,692 tonnes includes 36,502 tonnes of LNG; 15,639 tonnes of furnace oil; 15,000 tonnes of palm oil; 11,930 tonnes of steel coil; 7,609 tonnes of soyabean; 9,369 tonnes of chemical; 2,586 tonnes of sugar; 1,950 tonnes of LPG; 136 tonnes of project cargo and 41,971 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 50,008 tonnes includes 50,008 tonnes of containerised cargo.

As many as 4,841 containers comprising of 2,209 containers import and 2,632 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.

There was one ship namely MSC Asya carrying containers sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while three ships namely MOL Generosity, Maersk Seletar and Ocean Venture carrying containers and palm oil respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of eleven ships were occupied berths to load/offload containers, steel coil, coal, sugar, soyabean, chemical, LPG, LNG, furnace oil and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as eighteen vessels viz. Safmarine Nyassa, MSC Courage, Aldi Wave, African Leopard, Fralzis Star, Serene Amelia, Eternity SW, Golden Denise, Lucent, Cool Explorer, Epic Sardinia, Epic Barmuda, Gas Athena, Lia, Al-Salam-II, BW Despina, Arawana and Chemroad Orchid carrying containers, coal, soyabean, chemical, sugar, LPG, gas oil, mogas, palm kernel and palm oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were four ships viz. MSC Courage, Aldi Wave, Serene Amelia and Chemroad Orchid carrying containers, coal and palm oil respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal and Liquid Cargo Terminal respectively on Thursday.

There are two ships namely Safmarine Nyassa and Conti Courage carrying containers due to arrive on Friday.
