ISLAMABAD: Pakistan recorded 2,304 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, witnessing a 27 percent jump as 500 more cases were reported on Friday over the previous day, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) said. According to the NCOC data released on Friday morning, the country after four months registered over 2,000 cases as on July 16, 2020 more than 2,000 cases were reported the last time.
According to the data, the virus claimed 37 more lives during the past 24 hours, which is also the highest number in four months, while the number of active cases crossed 23,641 across the country. A total of 36,923 tests were conducted across the provinces, with the case positivity rate registering at 6.4 percent.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab, 108,822 individuals have been infected with Covid-19 in Punjab. The PDMA Punjab said that 601 new coronavirus cases have been detected by carrying out 12,038 tests, while 17 lives have been lost in the last 24 hours.
According to the PDMA Punjab, the province so far has lost 2,455 lives, while 97,703 people have recovered. Meanwhile, the Covid-19 data release by the Sindh Chief Minister's office in the evening, said that the province has reported 822 new cases of the coronavirus, raising the provincial tally to 153,874.
The statement also confirmed four more fatalities due to the virus, taking the overall death toll to 2,722. According to the statement, a total of 10,614 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, against which 822 cases were detected, which returned a positivity rate of 7.7 per cent.
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) reported 214 new Covid-19 cases and one death over the past 24 hours. The provincial coronavirus cases have reached 41,471 and the death toll is at 1,303. Balochistan recorded 48 cases and one death.
The provincial tally has risen to 16,274, while the death toll has reached 155. According to the District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad, the national capital has registered 357 new cases, while conducting 7,187 tests, and positivity ratio in the federal capital remained at 4.9 percent.
The DHO office said that four more educational institutes were sealed on Friday, on detection of Covid-19 positive cases. According to the Director General Health Azad Jammu and Kashmir, 122 people were tested positive for Covid-19 in the AJK and one death was reported over the past 24 hours.
The health authorities conducted 959 tests and 70 coronavirus patients have recovered. So far 5,261 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the valley of which 3,882 have recovered, while 1,260 are under treatment. According to the AJK Health Department, so far 119 people have died of the coronavirus in the valley.
