ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday said that foreign agencies and their sponsors within the country were running a malicious campaign against state institutions on the social media, and the government would go after all such people.

He was holding a meeting with the federal ministers, special assistants and advisers, party spokesmen and concerned secretaries to discuss the ongoing campaign against the government and the military by some quarters.

Referencing to the attack on Frontier Corps checkpost in Balochistan a day ago, during which seven soldiers embraced martyrdom while fighting with terrorists, the prime minister said that the army was a state institution and protecting it was a national responsibility.

"We have to give a befitting response to the anti-military narrative as it's a state institution and there would be no compromise on this," he declared.

The prime minister also directed his government to ensure the safety and security of the armed forces and other institutions in the country.

The sources said that the prime minister also directed the government to probe JUI-F's chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman's assets beyond means, saying his corruption should be exposed.

The PM also said that the opposition did not have an interest in the welfare of the country but they were working for their own interests.

We are not under any pressure from the opposition's movement, he said, adding, the opposition's only aim is to get the national reconciliation ordinance (NRO) which they are not going to get.

During the meeting, the prime minister was also briefed about several measures taken by the authorities to address the prevailing gas shortage in the country.

PM Khan was also appraised of the government's initiatives on reforms in the energy sector.

The meeting discussed the supply of electricity and gas to industries as well as the power supply and demand in the country.
