Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that the government is utilising all out resources for the protection of life and property of people and added that provision of latest weapons and modern training are also being imparted to the police force for maintenance of peace.
He said that the aim of progress and prosperity could not be realised without establishment of a peaceful and secure society.
He said that police should perform its responsibilities with commitment and dedication for the purpose of elimination of crime from the society and bring anti-social elements to justice.
He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to review law and order situation in the province on Sunday.
Member Provincial Assembly Colonel Shuja Khanzada (R), Advisor Jahanzeb Burki, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Secretaries of Home, Law and Information departments, Additional IG Special Branch, Capital City Police Officer and senior officers concerned were present on the occasion.
Inspector General Police Punjab Haji Habib-ur-Rehman gave a briefing regarding law and order situation and the measures taken for eradication of crime. Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that modern training courses were being conducted for the police officers with the co-operation of Turk police for the capacity-building of Punjab police.
He directed that such officers should be selected for these training courses as they are interested in and have experience of the relevant field. He directed the IG Police to make foolproof security arrangements at mosques and Imam Bargahs during Ramazan-ul-Mubarak while strict security arrangements should also be made in Sastay Ramazan Bazaars so that citizens could carry out shopping without any fear.
The Chief Minister directed to intensify security arrangements in markets and bazaars for checking the incidents of crime. He said that terrorism and lawlessness had caused irreparable loss to national economy. He said that the whole nation would have to unite and play its role for rooting out terrorism and extremism.
He said that provision of prompt and inexpensive justice to the masses was the top priority of the government and criminal justice system would have to be improved for this purpose.
He said that there was a need to improve prosecution system and maintain close and effective co-ordination between the departments concerned for the early disposal of cases and bring criminal elements to justice.
He said that 100 model police stations were being set up in the province where the entire process from registration of FIR would be completed expeditiously and in a transparent manner.
He directed the IG Police to evolve a comprehensive programme of training for making police a smart and intelligent force. He also directed Home Secretary to prepare working paper with the help of Secretary Prosecution and IG Police for early disposal of pending cases so that the impediments in the way of justice could be removed and justice could be provided to the people.
Inspector General Police Haji Habib-ur-Rehman informed the meeting that under the agreement between Punjab police and Turk police, 17 different training courses were being conducted for the officers of Punjab police.
He said that police officers had also undergone training in advanced field operation and anti-terrorism in Turkey. He said that open Kutcheries were being conducted throughout the province for the solution of people's problems and addressing their complaints while reconciliation committee had been constituted for dealing with the complaints of the people at the lower level.
He said that a feedback system had also been evolved to receive people's reaction. Haji Habib-ur-Rehman further said that 44,866 proclaimed offenders had been arrested during the last five months while effective action has been taken against the gangs involved in kidnapping for ransom, robbery, murder and other heinous crimes due to which crime rate had declined in the province.
