The traders, while showing grave concern over the increasing number of extortion activities, incidents of robbery, target killing and traders' abduction all over the country, have said that police have failed to provide security to the business community.
While addressing a meeting of the provincial capital's major markets boards held here on Monday at APAT head office representatives central General Secretary All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran Pakistan (APAT) Naeem Mir condemn the growing incidents of extortions, they expressed concern over rising extortion incidents, which have now reached even in Punjab.
Earlier in Multan Anjuman-e-Arhtian observe shutter down strike against this menace of bhatta mafia. The traders, in the meeting, said that incidents of robbery, theft and now killings of traders have harmed business environment and if govt cannot provide security to the taxpayers, it should resign at once. "Extortion menace, target killings, abduction of traders, and other crimes caused a virtual collapse to the growth of businesses in the country," said Naeem Mir. He also said that all major cities of Sindh, including Sukhar, Tando Allah Yar and Hyderabad, have also become insecure for traders, as they are now receiving demands for cash from the extortion mafia.
Mir said that business community of the KPK is also hit by the activities of terrorists, as several shopkeepers also lose their lives in market bomb blast. In the same way, traders abduction is on the rise in Balochistan while their looting of their consignment has become a routine but all the authorities either at central level or in provincial are quite spectators.
Mir further said that such activities had badly shattered the confidence of the business community which was extremely detrimental to an already ailing economy while the central as well as the all provincial governments have become silent spectators. He demanded that the police officials deployed for the security of VVIPs should be sent back to police stations. He stated that the matter of maintaining law and order should be the top priority of the government, as success in every other sector is dependent on it.
He said manufacturing sector in Punjab had badly suffered due to electricity load shedding, while in Karachi and Balochistan aduction of traders has become routine, adding that countrywide efforts should be done to bring the country back to peace and prosperity.
He said that All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajiran (APAT) delegation, headed by President Mian Abdul Mannan, during its visit to Karachi, has expressed solidarity with the businessmen community suffering from poor law and order and government's inaction against outlaws.
He said the trader's community of the country is deeply concerned over the deteriorating law and order situation in Karachi, saying that APAT members from all four provinces had already come to the city to show their support to the hapless business community in crisis. He said APAT would hold a countrywide traders convention where a consensus would be developed for civil disobedience against growing insecurity instead of just demonstrating or shutter down strike. He also said that a drive would be launched to convince traders not to pay taxes unless complete security will be provided to them.
