KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the Pakistan People’s Party candidate in Senate election Palwasha Khan and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a plea challenging the acceptance of PPP candidate’s nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections.
A division bench of the SHC ordered the respondents to appear before the court on March 1, 2021.
The petitioners submitted that the Election Tribunal allowed Palwasha Khan to contest Senate polls by neglecting the facts as the PPP candidate hid the name of her husband and sources of income in the nomination papers.
Palwasha Khan is contesting the Senate election on women’s seat.
Meanwhile, the SHC issued notices to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate in Senate election, Faisal Vawda, and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in a plea challenging the acceptance of PTI candidate’s nomination papers for the upcoming Senate elections.
Qadir Khan Mandokhel challenged the candidature of Vawda on the grounds that he hid his dual nationality while contesting general elections 2018. The court ordered Vawda and ECP officials to appear in person on March 1, 2021.
Vawda is contesting Senate elections on a general seat from Sindh.
