MQM Deputy Convener Dr Farooq Sattar has said that seventy percent draft bill on local government system has been finalised with consensus, adding that local government polls might be held after Eid. He was talking to media after an Iftar-dinner hosted by Karachi Tanzeemi Committee (KTC) at Gulshan-e-Iqbal Sector office.
Dr Farooq Sattar said the holding of local bodies' election will not delay the course of general elections anymore. "The history witnesses that none of the elected government held Local Government election in its tenure, but the PPP government is willing to hold the LG election," Dr Sattar added.
"There should be a political will in order to ensure rule of law and curbing lawlessness in city", Dr Sattar maintained. He underscored the need to introduce vigilant committees and community policing in all big cities of the country.
He reiterated that the local bodies' election should be held soon, so that the development process could be continued.
"MQM is ready to render any sacrifice for the integrity of Pakistan, as the country is facing internal and external challenges including energy crises, inflation, lawlessness etc", Dr Sattar added.
MNAs Haider Abbas Rizvi, Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan, Rasheed Godal, Incharge KTC Hammad Siddiqui, Provincial Minister for Youth Affairs Faisal Sabzwari, Provincial Minister for Environment Shaikh Muhammad Afzal and MPA Muzammil Qureshi were also present on the occasion.
