LAHORE: Darul Afta Pakistan has issued a fatwa (decree) declaring that vaccination against coronavirus is legal and permissible in accordance with Shariah stating that corona vaccine is needed to prevent the coronavirus pandemic.

Darul Afta Pakistan in its decree declared that the vaccination against coronavirus is permissible according to Islamic Shariah. The fatwa of also stated that philanthropists are also allowed to buy vaccine for those who are entitled to zakat.

Addressing a joint press conference in the office of Muttahida Ulema Board on Monday, Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi announced fatwa stating it is being issued with the consent and consultation of Ulemas-Muftis and leading religious scholars of Darul Afta Pakistan.

Islamic law commands to protect oneself and others from harm, and it is absolutely not right to spread rumors about the corona vaccine. The leading religious institutions in the Islamic world including Darul Iftaa, Saudi Arabia, Majma Al-Fiqh Al-Islami Jeddah, Darul Iftaa Egypt have declared to administer coronavirus vaccine as Shariah obligation so one can ensure his safety as well as of others. Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi was also flanked by leading muftis and religious scholars including Maulana Mufti Falak Sher, Allama Muhammad Aslam Siddiqui, Maulana Asadullah Farooq, Maulana Muhammad Shafi Qasmi, Maulana Muhammad Khan Leghari, Maulana Qasim Qasmi, Maulana Tahir Aqeel Awan, Maulana Mufti Hafeez-ur-Rehman, Maulana Aslam Qadri, Maulana Noman Hashir, Allama Zubair Abid, Maulana Muhammad Ayub Safdar, Maulana Anwar-ul-Haq Mujahid, Maulana Hafiz Kazim Raza, Pir Asad Habib Shah Jamali, Maulana Abu Bakar Sabri, Maulana Naib Khan, Allama Tahir-ul-Hassan, Maulana Habib-ur-Rehman Abid, Maulana Ashfaq Potafi, Qazi Matiullah Saeedi, Maulana Qari Shamsul Haq, Allama Ghulam Akbar Saqi, Maulana Aqeel Zubair, Allama Abdul Rauf, Maulana Mufti Imran Muawiyah, Maulana Mufti Umar Farooq, Maulana Asad Zakaria Qasmi, Maulana Aziz Akbar Qasmi, Maulana Saadullah Shafiq and others. The fatwa was issued after a series of meetings chaired by the Imam of Kaaba Sheikh Saleh bin Hameed at the Islamic Jurisprudence Council in Jeddah which operates under the auspices of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Ashrafi also stated that leading scholars and leaders of Muslim world including Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, Mufti-e-Azam of Saudi Arabia, President of Palestine and other important Muslim leaders have been vaccinated.

Hafiz Mohammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi said that Darul Aftaa Pakistan also endorsed and supported the fatwa of Mufti-e-Azam Saudi Arabia of vaccination during fasting and according to Islamic law vaccination does not break the fast. He said there is a need to take action and precautionary measures and SOPs announced for the mosques to prevent coronavirus. Replying to a question, Ashrafi said no proposal was under consideration to close mosques during or before Ramadan. .
