HAMBURG: The Taiwan Flour Millers’ Association bought an estimated 96,645 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States in a tender which closed on Thursday, European traders said.

The wheat was bought in two consignments comprising various wheat types for shipment from the US Pacific Northwest coast in May and June.

The first consignment for shipment between May 29 and June 12 involved 25,270 tonnes of US dark northern spring wheat of 14.5% protein content bought at $285.04 a tonne FOB US Pacific Northwest coast, traders said.

The first consignment also involved 15,390 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5% protein bought at $262.81 a tonne FOB and 5,005 tonnes of soft white wheat of 9% protein bought at $260.79 a tonne FOB.

The first consignment has an additional freight charge of $47.44 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.

The second consignment for shipment between June 15 and June 29 involved 27,990 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14.5% protein content bought at $285.04 a tonne FOB US Pacific Northwest coast.

The second consignment also included 16,500 tonnes of hard red winter wheat of 12.5% protein content bought at $262.81 a tonne FOB and 6,490 tonnes of soft white wheat of 9% protein bought at $260.79 a tonne FOB.

The second consignment has an additional freight charge of $42.70 per tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific Northwest coast to Taiwan, they said.

All the wheat in both consignments was sold by trading house CHS.
