PM Imran lauds Chinese President Xi's efforts to combat climate change
- Says President Xi’s message on World Environment Day 2021 hosted by Pakistan reflect our commitment to counter environmental degradation
- PM had said that the world's richest countries have not done enough to combat global warming
(Karachi) Prime Minister Imran Khan has lauded the efforts of Chinese President Xi Jinping for combatting climate change.
In a tweet on Sunday, Imran said: "I thank China President Xi’s strong message on World Environment Day 2021 hosted by Pakistan reflecting our commitment to counter environment degradation."
He added, "We laud Pres Xi's ldrship in combatting climate change & biodiversity loss & his offer to step up cooperation on ecosystem restoration."
Earlier, PM Imran said that the world's richest countries have not done enough to combat global warming. He added Pakistan had done more than any other in the world to combat rising emissions relative to its economic means.
The prime minister stated that global green financing and the valuation of natural assets provided good incentives to the developing world to protect the environment.
He called on the developed world to support those countries vulnerable to climate change and highlighted Pakistan's contributions towards tackling global warming.
