Prices of most of the essential kitchen items remained on high side during the week past as compared to the preceding week, reveals a survey carried out by Business Recorder here on Saturday. Traders and wholesalers in different markets of the twin cities Islamabad and Rawalpindi told Business Recorder that prices of essential kitchen items have already reached the highest level, however they maintained that prices are likely to go up further in the coming days as Eid-ul-Fitr is approaching.
The survey noted that tomato prices increased from Rs 60 to Rs 80 per kg registering raise of Rs 20 per kg last week. Onion was available at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 40 per kg, lemon at Rs 150-180 per kg, potato at Rs 50-60 per kg, arvi at Rs 50 per kg, cucumber at Rs 60 per kg, carrot at Rs 60 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 50 per kg against Rs 40 per kg and capsicum at Rs 80 against Rs 60 per kg last week. A continues decline was observed in chicken price during last two weeks, as it was available at Rs 145 per kg against Rs 150-155 per kg last week.
However, rice prices remained unchanged during the last week as colonel rice was available at Rs 125-130 per kg, while broken rice at Rs 80-90 per kg. Prices of entire range of pulses remained unchanged during the week past as maash was being sold at Rs 160 per kg, moong at Rs 160 per kg, lobia at Rs 130 per kg, masoor at Rs 135 per kg and white channa at Rs 180 per kg. Sugar was available at Rs 56 per kg without any significant change in its price. Similarly, ghee/cocking oil prices ranged between Rs 160-210 per kg/litre, as no change was observed in their prices last week.
A slight decline was observed in fruits price, as mango was available at Rs 50-70 per kg against Rs 60-80 per kg, banana at Rs 180-250 per dozen against Rs 180-380 per dozen, guava at Rs 70-80 per kg against Rs 100 per kg, apple at Rs 120-200 per kg, peach at Rs 60-80 per kg against Rs 100-120 per kg and grapes at Rs 250-300 per kg during last week as compared to the preceding week.
