An Afghan district governor, his bodyguard and a tribal elder were killed Sunday when a roadside bomb struck their vehicle in eastern Afghanistan. "Faridullah Neyazi, the governor for Alisheng district of Laghman province, was heading towards his office this morning along with a tribal elder, Mahmood, when the bomb hit their car," Jaliyatullah Hamidi, the deputy governor for Laghman province, told dpa.
The bomb was remotely detonated by the militants, he said, adding that three died on the spot, while a fourth person travelling with them in the vehicle was injured and hospitalised. The Taliban were not immediately available for comment.
