The residents of the two union councils of Sulemankhel and Sheikh Mohammadi, district Peshawar on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration against the alleged shifting of power transformer from Sheikh Mohammadi Grid Station to Mardan and termed it a sheer injustice with the people of the area.
The residents of the suburban villages of Shahabkhel, Sulemankhel, Ghari Malikhel, Sheikh Mohammadi and other adjacent areas staged a protest demo in front of Peshawar Press Club (PPC). Addressing the protesters, chairman Town-IV Workers Ittehand, Shaukat Khan Momand said that the people of the area are facing 22-hour load shedding and the shifting of the power transformer will multiply their problem.
The slogan chanting protesters termed the Wapda authorities, Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Member of National Assembly, Arbab Mohammad Zahir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Saqibullah Khan Chamkani responsible for the agonies of the people. They said that the incompetency of the public representatives are increasing their problems, saying that so far they have not felt even the physical presence of their representatives. On one hand they said the whole area is passing prolong power shut down and on the other hand power transformer of the area is being shifted to Mardan, which they attributed to dacoity on their rights.
They said that the power transformer was established by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto for the mitigation of the problems of the people, but, unfortunately, he said it had failed in benefiting the residents of the area. They said that the present provincial government instead of mitigation is increasing their difficulties.
The protestors said that these elements through shifting equipment, feeder and other instruments had defaced the grid station and warned that in case the step-mother treatment with the continue and power transformer was not returned then they will besiege the Chief Minister House. They also demanded of the President Asif Ali Zardari to take notice of the matter, otherwise, the responsibility of any untoward incident will rest on the Chief Minister and WAPDA authorities.
