KARACHI: NOWPDP and the Government of Sindh collaborated to process tens of Special CNICs and hundreds of Disability Certificates for persons with disabilities across Sujawal, Sindh. The camp took place in a highly awaited two day One Window SCNIC Camp held at the first of its kind NOWPDP Center of Excellence for Disability Inclusion, Moriro Markaz.
NOWPDP ensured that the SCNIC camp was made fully accessible with assistive devices and sign language interpreters for all persons with disabilities attending the SCNIC Camp to get their Disability Certificates and Special CNICs.
On this occasion, Member of National Assembly, Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Sheerazi, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Sindh, Sadiq Ali Memon & Secretary DEPD, Akhtar Bugti were also present.
One window camps like these are tools to speed up the otherwise lengthy process of acquiring Special CNICs and disability certificates.
Under one roof, all the important and relevant organizations and entities like SPDPA, NADRA, and medical doctors come together to facilitate persons with disabilities in getting this important document synonymous with their identity.
WHO says 15% of a country's population comprises of persons with disabilities which means that a truly large number of Pakistan has a disability.
However, they usually go unreported as the process of acquiring an SCNIC is both long and inaccessible or that persons with disabilities are unaware about the process and importance. This deprives this community from attaining their Shanakht through the Special CNIC and the facilities that come along with it.
Executive Director NOWPDP, Omair Ahmad said, "Identity is one of the most fundamental human rights, enshrined in our societal conscience - we are honoured to be a part of Sujawal's journey in achieving this for hundreds of persons with disabilities."
Moreover, he also emphasized on the dire need for all the relevant stakeholders - persons with disabilities, NOWPDP and the Government - to come together to bring about pragmatic change that could truly lead to a Bashamool Pakistan.
Special Assistant to CM Sindh, Sadiq Ali Memon expressed his support for the cause of disability inclusion. He said, "I am really happy to see such a wonderful and well organized One Window Camp for issuance of Disability Certificates/SCNICs to persons with disabilities and hopefully this facility will be provided to other districts of the province".
Member of National Assembly, Syed Ayaz Ali Shah Sheerazi also came forward to congratulate the team's efforts behind the camp and said, "We will always be available for whenever NOWPDP and the Moriro Markaz need us. Our cooperation will be ever present in ensuring they all get the right tools to promote and protect the disability inclusion cause."
Special CNIC Camps like these are an innovative way to go about getting the most fundamental right of persons with disabilities - the right to their identity.-PR
