KARACHI: The crackdown against smuggled betel nuts is in full swing as Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement, Karachi has confiscated over Rs 132 million worth of betel nuts during the last 30 days.
According to details, a trolley loaded with around 33,950 kilograms of smuggled betel nuts was intercepted near Metrowell Bridge, SITE Area Karachi on September 02, 2021. The total amount of seizures is 57.24 million.
Similarly, on August 23, 2021, around 4,500 kilograms of betel nuts were recovered from an Afghan export cargo concealed under the cover load of apricots. The total amount of seizure was Rs. 25.15 million.
Earlier, two buses and a vehicle were successfully chased and intercepted and around 8,180 kilograms of betel nuts were recovered. The total amount of these seizures was Rs 49.7 million. The department has made the betel nuts seizures worth Rs. 132.10 million in its ongoing crackdown against smuggled betel nuts during the last 30 days.
Meanwhile, the department said that the new tactics and mode of concealments were being hacked and strict action was being planned against the smugglers in Karachi.
