ISLAMABAD: Tax lawyers, tax experts and Pakistan Tax Advisors Association (PTAA) has approached Prime Minister Imran Khan seeking extension in date for filing of income tax returns up to November 30, 2021.
Renowned Karachi-based tax lawyer Ali A. Rahim told Business Recorder that the FBR's system was not fully operational Saturday (Sep 25) night and the same position has been witnessed on Sunday. There is a need to extend date keeping in view delay in filing of returns due to system errors and technical issues at the IRIS Web-portal, Ali A. Rahim added.
According to a communication of Javed Iqbal Qazi, Chairman Pakistan Tax Advisors Association to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin here on Sunday, the last date of E-filing of tax returns has been fixed by the Federal Board of Revenue as September 30, 2021.
Due to economic conditions in the country and covid situation, the taxpayers are not in a position to discharge their liabilities both statutory & otherwise. Further it is being experienced that FBR/IRIS portal is not functional due to many reasons including the availability of domain/internet.
It has also come to our knowledge that various issues in uploading the data on the system are being updated by PRAL after having been appointed by the various officials of the tax bars, Javed Iqbal Qazi said.
Even the calculation of Tax on property income is not being worked out on the IRIS portal in accordance with law.
Last but not the least the statutory time for notifying the income tax returns as per Rule 34 A of the Income Tax Rules, 2002 has been notified as prescribed but late by almost six months.
Qazi said that even last year the date was extended up to December 2020 i,e (3 months more than the date).
Therefore, the taxpayers/ tax advisors be facilitated in the extreme interest of justice & fair play and the date of filing of returns be extended to November 30, 2021, Javed Iqbal Qazi added.
