- Information minister Fawad Chaudhry had earlier said process started following consultation between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa
The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has received the summary from the Ministry of Defense for the appointment of the new Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI), reported Aaj News on Wednesday.
The appointment will be made after the summary's approval by Prime Minister Imran Khan.
Earlier, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry announced that the process for the appointment of the new DG ISI has been initiated.
In a tweet, the information minister shared that the process has started following consultation between Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
"The civil and military leadership has yet again proved that all institutions are united for the country's stability, integrity and development," Chaudhry said.
In a press conference on Tuesday following the federal cabinet meeting, the information minister had said that the PM is the authority in terms of appointment of the director-general ISI.
He further stated that a detailed meeting was held between the PM and the army chief on Monday night, adding both have close cordial and pleasant relations with each other. "Such relations between civil and military leadership are very important in the backdrop of the history of Pakistan," he added.
Authority to appoint DG ISI rests with PM: Fawad
Addressing ongoing speculation regarding differences between PM Imran and COAS Bajwa over the appointment of the new DG ISI, Fawad said: “Prime Minister's Office will never take a step that could impact the prestige of Pakistan’s Army and its chief.”
He reiterated that both sides have an agreement on the process, adding that all appointments have taken place after broad consultations and the new DG ISI will be appointed after completing all legal requirements.
