If the stock exchange is an important barometer of the health of the economy then the economy is in the doldrums. The Government needs to restore confidence by providing a package of relief. Reduction in taxes on dividends and capital gains for a 3 year period coupled with freedom to invest in stocks with no questions asked on the source of funds if not withdrawn from stocks for 3 years should be considered.
