The Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation - Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has seized 1,300 kilograms of superior quality hashish worth Rs 40 million during an anti-smuggling operation in Peshawar. Sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that it was one of the major anti-smuggling operations in Peshawar, which was made successful through effective checking and vigilance by the field staff of the Anti-Smuggling Agency.
Directorate of Customs Intelligence Peshawar received information that an attempt would be made to smuggle huge quantity of hashish from tribal areas to down country via Motorway (M-1) and its ultimate destination was abroad. The staff of Directorate General mounted surveillance operation near Rashakai Interchange, Motorway (M-I), where the suspected Hino Oil Tanker bearing Registration No FDS-07-3934 was stopped on arrival by the staff of Customs Intelligence. Apparently no offending goods were found in the oil tanker, however, detailed search of the oil tanker revealed presence of drugs in a secret cavity specially designed for the purpose in the oil tanker.
Driver Khan Shah s/o Noor Rehman and the cleaner Kashmir Khan s/o Yar Muhammad were immediately taken into custody and the oil tanker was brought to the premises of Directorate of Customs Intelligence Peshawar where detailed examination of the oil tanker led to the recovery of 1,300 kgs hashish concealed in secret cavities.
Hashish and the oil tanker have been seized under the Customs Act, 1969. FIR No 34 dated 25.08.2012 has been lodged under the Customs Act, 1969 and CNSA 1997 and further investigation is in progress. The value of hashish in local market is estimated at approximately Rs 40 million.
