ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz, Thursday, said that their party Quaid Nawaz Sharif has been convinced on the option of a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan, as the situation has now turned “favourable”.

Talking to reporters, she said that Nawaz Sharif was earlier not in favour of the no-confidence motion and was not convinced, who has been asked by the party that we need to listen to the voices of the people and that the time has arrived to get rid of this government.

“The party told him [Nawaz] that being a major opposition party, it’s our responsibility to respond to the voices of the people and give them relief from inflation, price hike, and the torment imposed on them in the shape of [Prime Minister] Imran Khan. So, we understand that the nation and the people cannot afford any further turmoil in this country and we need to fulfil our responsibility,” she maintained.

She said that in the current situation, moving a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan is now “favourable” and urged the PTI lawmakers to stop backing their government, given the “changed scenario”.

She said it was also incumbent upon all opposition parties to respect the sentiments of the inflation-hit people and respond accordingly to their calls.

PTI MNAs ready to jump ship, says Maryam Nawaz

“The recent speeches by Imran Khan reflected his frustration due to lack of public support, failure to deliver and his inability to govern the country and he also knew that his party lawmakers are ready to jump the ship,” she claimed.

To a question whether the PML-N would support a PPP’s nominee as a possible interim premier, in case the move to oust Prime Minister Khan succeeds, she said that it was premature to talk about the future interim premier, adding that the only focus this time was on the no-confidence motion. “I would also like to ask the PTI members and those backing Imran Khan that they also have to respect the public calls,” she said, adding that they are now bound to listen to the public voice and act accordingly, as they don’t have other option to choose.

Maryam said that it is a “reality” that the PTI government is no more acceptable and its allies are also aware of the fact that “they won’t be in a position to carry the baggage of the government’s failures in the next election campaign”.

“There is unrest in the country. Terrorism is on the rise once again … It’s my honest advice to him [PM Khan] to wear a helmet whenever he go out to meet the people,” she told Prime Minister Khan.
