ISLAMABAD: The Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (LSMI) output has registered a growth of 10.7 percent during July-April 2021-22 as compared to the same period of the last year 2020-21, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) said.
According to the Provisional Quantum Index Numbers of Large Scale Manufacturing Industries (QIM) the LSMI output for April 2022 decreased by 13.3 per cent on a month-on-month basis when compared with March 2022 with the base year, 2015-16.
The indices for April 2022 and July-April 2021-22 along with growth are as; QIM estimated for July-April, 2021-22 is 126.4 and QIM estimated for April 2022 is 132.4.
The LSMI output increased by 15.4 per cent for April 2022 when compared with April 2021 and decreased by 13.3 per cent when compared with March 2022.
According to the data with base year 2005-06, the overall output of LSMI has shown a growth of 6.7 per cent during July-April 2021-22 when compared with the same period of last year. The LSMI output increased by 5.3 per cent for April 2022 when compared with April 2021 and decreased by 22.8 per cent when compared with March 2022 with base year 2005-06.
The production in July-April 2021-22 as compared to July-April 2020-21 has increased in food, beverages & tobacco, wearing apparel, textile, chemicals, automobiles, iron and steel products, leather products, and paper and paperboard while it decreased in rubber products and other transport equipment.
Jul-Mar LSMI output jumps 10.4pc YoY
The LSM data released by the PBS with base year 2015-16 showed that the main contributors toward the overall growth of 10.7per cent are sugar (2.0), cigarettes (0.3),garments (3.2), woolen blankets (0.6), liquids/syrups (1.5), chemical products (0.5), glass plates and sheets (0.3), billets/ingots (0.5), jeeps and cars (1.3), and furniture (1.2).
Textile, the top contributing sector to the overall big industry output, increased by 3.7 per cent, food 11 per cent, beverages 1.5 per cent, tobacco 14.5 per cent, wearing apparel 41.1 per cent, chemicals 8.3 per cent, automobiles 48.2 per cent, iron and steel products 16.3 per cent, leather products 1.6 per cent, wood products 134.9 per cent, paper and board 8.2 per cent, cock and petroleum products 1.1 per cent, chemical products 16.5 per cent, fertilizers 3.4 per cent, machinery and equipment 13.6 per cent, furniture 227.5 per cent and other manufacturing (football) 37.3 per cent during July-April 2021-22 compared to the same period of 2020-21.
The sectors showing decline during July-April 2021-22 compared to July-April 2020-21 included pharmaceutical rubber products 18.8 per cent, non-metallic mineral products 0.3 per cent and other transport equipment 10.9 per cent.
The petroleum products witnessed an increase of 0.33 per cent as its output went up from 11.878 billion litres during July-April 2020-21 to 11.839 billion litres in July-April 2021-22, while on YoY basis petroleum sector witnessed a negative growth of 4.37 per cent as its output decreased from 1.231 billion litres in April 2021 to 1.17 billion litres in April 2022.
High-speed diesel witnessed 0.69 per cent growth as its output remained 4.626 billion litres during July-April 2021-22 compared to 4.595 billion litres during the same period of last year, and 7.34 per cent growth in April 2022, and remained 493.331 million litres compared to 459.61 million litres during the same period of last year.
Furnace oil witnessed 7.76 per cent negative growth in output and remained 2.091 billion litres in July-April 2021-22 compared to 2.267 billion litres in July-April 2020-21 and 10.43 per cent negative growth in April 2022, and remained 194.938 million litres compared to 217.648 million litres during the same period of last year.
According to the PBS data, sugar production witnessed 39.42 per cent growth as its output remained 7.869 million tonnes during July-April 2021-22 compared to 5.644 million tonnes during the same period of last year, and 332.25 per cent growth in April 2022 compared to the same period of last year.
Cement witnessed 4.6 per cent negative growth during July-April 2021-22 and remained 39.904 million tonnes compared to 41.845 million tonnes during the same period of last year, and registered 20.5 per cent negative growth in April 2022, and remained 3.361 million tonnes compared to 4.226 million tonnes during the same period of last year.
