France's international footballers have agreed to forego bonuses for friendly matches and will receive no bonus unless they qualify for the 2014 World Cup, French Football Federation (FFF) president Noel Le Graet said on Friday. "The players will forego their bonuses for friendly matches, which is something at least," said Le Graet.
"There will no longer be bonuses for the coming two years of competition. On the other hand, if we go to Brazil (for the World Cup) 30 percent of the sum paid by FIFA will be given to the players who participated in qualification. "This sum should amount to 8 million euros ($10.2m), or about 2.4 million for the team."
During the final phase, 30 percent of the FIFA bonus will also be paid to the players, he said. "Concerning image rights, which have not changed in a long time, it will be increased from 10,000 euros per match to 15,000 euros per match," he added. Le Graet also said that the annual saving of 2 million euros will go towards amateur football and the running of the federation.
