The Karachi Port handled 89,591 tonnes of cargo comprising 57,176 tonnes of import cargo and 32,415 tonnes of export cargo including 4,392 loaded & empty containers during last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 57,176 tonnes comprised of 31,126 tonnes of containerised cargo and 26,050 tonnes of bulk cargo.
The total export cargo of 32,415 tonnes comprised of 12,955 tonnes of containerised cargo; 337 tonnes of general cargo; 643 tonnes of bulk cargo and 18,480 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. A total number of 4,392 containers comprising 2,647 containers import and 1,745 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday.
The brake up of imported containers shows 676 of 20's and 871 of 40's of loaded while 199 of 20's and 15 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 426 of 20's and 111 of 40's loaded containers while and 329 of 20's 384 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. Four ships carrying three oil tankers and one container ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels with four container ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.
The total import cargo of 72,852 tonnes includes 34,866 tonnes of diesel oil; 7,000 tonnes of palm oil; 8,651 tonnes of chemicals and 22,335 tonnes of containerised cargo. The total export cargo of 39,320 tonnes includes 4,321 tonnes of cement; 3,292 tonnes of corn and 31,770 tonnes of containerised cargo.
Four ships namely CV MSC Sina, CV Asian Trader, MV Sapphire-II and MT Al-Kuwaitiah carrying containers, cement and diesel oil sailed out to sea on Saturday morning. A total number of nine vessels viz CV MSC Scotland, CV MSC Sina, CV Asian Trader, MV Sapphire-II, MV AMS Pegasus-II, MT STX Forte, MT Al-Kuwaitiah, MV Ananya Naree and MV Bhai Ravi are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, corn, chemicals, diesel oil and palm oil respectively during last 24 hours. A furnace oil tanker namely Akaki is currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. One furnace oil tanker viz MT Al-Soor-II is expected to take berth at FOTCO Oil Terminal on Saturday.
