This has been made to sound as if people are responding to Bilawal's call in a telethon. In fact it's in response to Pakistan's flash appeal through the UN and Bilawal being the FM is making the appeal on behalf of Pak govt. The attempt is to sound like Bilawal can also raise funds like Imran - simply untrue!

That's just poor journalism. Do you not know that the FM represents Pakistan and not an individual? The correct headline should have been "Pakistan's appeal generates 1 trillion from the world" Nothing to do with Bilawal or the implied one upmanship to Imran Khan - who got the aid from common people and not governments.

A business paper journalist should know difference between 100 billion and a Trillion.

I was not expecting this error from business newspaper ...... Do you know how many billions are there in 1 trillion ? Based on BR report, member countries has pledged to donate 4.5 billion USD which is highly unlikely.

Does it matter, who raises what and how much, you guys are still playing politics while the country is in ruins, shame on you, did Imran raise funds for himself, is Bilawal asking for funds for himself, is the Prime Minister doing it for himself, NO, every one in its capacity should do what is necessary to help out in this time of need. May Allah guide you all to do the right thing.

@Idrees Khawaja , I am ashamed to read your comments, even in these time of need you guys are playing POLITICS, did Imran raise funds for himself, is Bilawal asking for funds for himself, is the Prime Minister of Pakistan appealing for help for himself, these guys are sleeping in their big houses high and dry, you should think of those guys that have no roofs on their heads and no food in their stomach, every one of the Pakistani should try and collect whatever they can collect or do whatever they can for their country. The country needs every dime they can collect to get the effected people ban on their feet. May Allah give you the criticizers to think positively in this time of need.

Joke of the century! He didn't do anything nor the Foreign Ministry because this amount would be collected even if there is no one in the Foreign Ministry, it was the appeal by UN Secretary to the countries to assist the national efforts in dealing with the catastrophic floods in Pakistan.

Misleading Aug 31, 2022 10:44am
This is completely misleading journlaism. Why is the news being presented in a manner as though the FM was fundraising?! It is important to contextualise news as it is, instead of cherry picking facts to make it seem as reflective of the entire truth. The UN has issued a flash appeal under the office of the UN Sec.General, on the request of Pakistan government, which has resulted in US$ 163 million being pledged by UN member countries in aid of flood relief efforts to Pakistan.

It is basically an aid to Pakistan (which infact will be eaten up by the giants) not to an individual. Amazed to see journalism can go this cheap.

@Idrees Khawaja , the fact that the FM was able to generate funds of the people in misery from his appeal in itself is a good feat. Please refrain from trying to bring Imran khan into everything . At this time of misery for people suffering it’s pathtiec on your part to try to sway politics into human tragedy .

though it is for a noble cause, people have reservations over the heading of the news. it sounded like a biased heading for the news. and request everyone to participate in this cause as well regardless of How Much, through whom.

Is this newspaper for real. Is this the standard of Pakistani journalism? Do you really think you are fooling the people? You have just shown how dishonest and misleading your organisation is. Shame on you!

I welcome this development in our dire hour of need if its only True. The Press handout does not give us break up of donations, sources, where it originates. US, ofcourse, being on number one with $30 million dollars, again via USAID, not direct transfer to government kitty, Canada $5 million, Australia $2 million, UK 1.2 million pounds, China only paltry $300,000. Not even half a million. So where exactly is the rest of the money coming from. WB, IMF and ADP? that would be a loan, not a donation.

Alas! The world is concerned about the people of Pakistan. We are debating politics in flood victims' relief efforts.
