KARACHI: The Collectorate of Customs Enforcement (CCE), Karachi has recovered a highly expensive vehicle ‘Bentley Mulsanne,’ which was stolen from London, United Kingdom.

This unprecedented incident where a stolen vehicle from London recovered in Karachi on the information given by the UK intelligence agency has raised serious questions on the performance of the country’s different agencies.

According to the document, the British intelligence agency sent credible information to the CCE, Karachi that a grey Bentley Mulsanne, V8 Automatic, VIN number SCBBA63Y7FC001375, engine number CKB304693, which was stolen from London, is parked in DHA, Karachi.

In response, the team of CCE has mounted strict surveillance at the aforesaid location in order to verify the veracity of the information. During a physical search, the department recovered the vehicle which was found parked inside the car porch of the house.

The light grey coloured cloth was removed and the grey Bentley Mulsanne was found having Pakistani registration No Plate BRS-279(2020 Sindh) at the back side of the vehicle, whereas a white coloured handmade number plate bearing BRS-279 was found on the front side of the vehicle.

However, the chassis number of the vehicle was matched with the given details of the stolen vehicle. Consequently, the department has taken the owner and the vehicle into custody for further investigation.

During the initial course of the inquiry, the owner of the vehicle disclosed that the vehicle was sold to him by another person, who took all the responsibilities to clear all required documentation from the concerned authorities. On his information, the department has also arrested the said person, who introduced himself as a broker and disclosed the name of the main culprit, who is still an absconder.

Sources in the customs department told that the registration of such an expensive vehicle required sale permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NOC from Pakistan Customs, and the receipt of the payment of duty and taxes.

Astonishingly, the Sindh Excise and Taxation department registered this stolen vehicle without completing all legal formalities, indicating the involvement of Sindh Excise officers in these illicit activities. The case has been registered and further investigation is in progress to take the responsible persons behind the bar.

Commendable work by CCE Karachi team for recovering the vehicle. People should avoid getting trapped by brokers who promise to clear all papers or offering heavy discounts on such luxurious items. Gaps in Vehicle Registration System also need to be fixed. I'm surprised on the poor surveillance and border control systems in UK. They were unable to stop vehicle from smuggling out of their borders. Hope that similar cooperation between both countries will be extended in cases of criminals of either country.

When excise & Registration (Sindh) is a contract system, The customs, preventive, & other Departments are in one gang, they are Mafias, without bribing not a 660 cc car could be registered , Even if you goes for verification, they verified the documents for some time, verbally not documented. The Sindh is at contract base even if you go Revenue Service , the private, unofficial, and undocumented gangsters are sitting at official seats , when I asked for official ID, nobody had of Landhi branch, can proof , they accepted, what I wrote. Can verified. The American writer wrote regarding for these people , that for dollars, they can sell their mother....

Without their nod, such a blatant and shameful crime could in no way be executed. These people are prostituting our nation, Shameless. shameless. All for something which they will leave behind and only take their misdeeds to the grave. Wonder if they ever think of life like that. Taking vehicle from UK to Pakistan is not difficult. This business is going on for years with the involvement of shipping companies you can take any car to Pakistan. The procedure is that the vehicle first exported to Dubai than it exported to Afghanistan. From Afghanistan to Pakistan is no problem for afghanis to bring the car anywhere in Pakistan and in Pakistan no problem to register with the help of custom and excise bride taking officers and politician. During Russian invasion in Afghanistan Russian tanks and other ammonation were smuggled to Karachi for the Americans to know Russian technology.

In my opinion, primarily it was London Police and Border authority negligence. At the time of export, the exporter must have shown some documents, based on which, the export had taken place. Now that was London Authorities responsibility to check the authenticity of the declared papers. I don't think the responsibility lies on the importing party.

For all those trying to pass the blame on the UK border force, it shows how little you think. The UK border forces, under the direction of intelligence agencies deliberately didn't stop the car at the border, they wanted to see the whole criminal network stretching from London to Karachi, why catch the low people when you can leave it and see the whole chain at the top? That's the difference between showbazi policing and real policing.

Astonishingly, the Sindh Excise and Taxation department registered this stolen vehicle without completing all legal formalities, indicating the involvement of Sindh Excise officers in these illicit activities. The case has been registered and further investigation is in progress to take the responsible persons behind the bar. Must be for zardari as he always works through front men like Malik Riaz, Anwer Majid, Mandviwalla and channels billions of dollors via bank account of pakorey walla, samosey walla, theyley walla. Arrest him.

It’s nothing to do with the efficiency of the intelligence agencies of the UK but it’s very simple to locate an expensive car as each one is fitted with a tracking device( different parts of each car). A friend of mine’s brand new Mercedes was stolen and driven to Cyprus overnight was located at the exact location ( as car manufacturers know where they fitted the device in each car)and recovered by the police.

How UK dare to raise the efficiency of Pakistan agencies. First of all UK should clarify how the car crossed the border of UK. What are the role of UK's customs, police, border control force. Car stolen in londen where was the london police, crossed borders of 7 countries where was the customs immigration and intelligence agencies of all borders.. and who they arrested? When the car was stolen, what action was taken by local police for retrieval, have they informed cross border force, what cross border checked. Latest equiped, technology, briallant minds if UK could not control crime in their limits now criticizing other country's agencies. Shame and pity UK.

It proves that UK border control, Customs and police are also involved and hands in glove in this fraudulent activity. UK government should clean their own mess as well and, return our thieves and culprits who ran away with millions of dollars of public funds

I wonder who doesn’t know the biggest, most attractive & thriving market for stolen cars out side the borders of Europe & M.E. Be it be cars snatched by criminals on gun points from within the country or stolen from Afghanistan everyone makes a hey in day light in our country. It is because the cost of doing this illicit business is negligible compared to profit and gains it generates. Then it is secure as well for the criminals as they find acquiescing authorities always ready to cooperate. It’s why Govt had to announce amnesty for registration of stolen cars few years back. I will not blame any institution but absence of Rule of law, poor governance and the last & the most vital of all is the lingering issue I call it “ leadership crisis “ prevailing over many decades.

@Wasif Sadi, This wasn't job done by Pakistan Custom Enforcement Cell. It was reported to Pakistan Custom by UK Authorities. Pakistan Custom Must be interrogated / investigated how come it was cleared by Custom authorities from Karachi Port. Furthermore, how many such vehicles have been cleared by Pakistan Custom Authorities in the past and how long this game was being played. Definitely only custom is not involved. There must be other Government agencies too. Such as FIA, Karachi Dock/ Port area Police, Karachi Port Trust and Foreign Office etc.

The people are aware of the corruption and malpractice of the government departments but this needs to be taken seriously as this is sheer embarrassment that has been caused to the country by corrupt, non professional and incompetent staff of the department concern. If a common man goes to excise people even for his genuine work he is given so much trouble and ultimately made to pay them for the job to be done and these people they get a stolen vehicle registered without any issue not only excise, customs, port authorities, police all should be ashamed and be punished to set an example I am sure nothing will happen the person who bought this will walk out of this nice and easy plus all the officials as well great country to live in and proud to be Pakistani

There are numerous cars stolen and parked in remote areas which are later scavenged for parts. What about us local people? I hope this country also gives its due rights to its citizens.

How interesting the system is. The Bentley car or it's real owner got Lucky and hopefully both will be reunited soon in UK however the money stolen from countries are unable to enjoy the same luxury of justice, wether it's from 3rs world to 1st world or Banking/Tax/Credit Card scams from 1st worlds and thieves ran back their 2nd/3rd world countries. Neither the stolen wealth from one country recovered back to the other nor the thieves returned or deported back to the countries they have stolen from.
