The security of US diplomatic mission has been strengthened, following the attacks on American consulates and embassies in Libya, Egypt and Yemen. "The capital police have beefed up security in the city, particularly of the US diplomats and the US embassy to avert any untoward incident," Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin said while talking to Business Recorder on Thursday.
He said that after the killing of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens in reaction to an anti-Islam film, protests against the US were also expected in the city. The city police, he added had made a special security plan to handle any untoward situation.
According to a source, the city police have received information that some organisations are planning to stage protests against the US on Friday (today). And in view of the information, the diplomats have been asked to avoid visiting public places and restrict their movement. Heavy contingents of police have been deputed on all routes leading to diplomatic enclave and red zone. Special police teams have also been constituted to ensure effective patrolling.
