Girls students outshone boys in the BA and B.Sc examination as the University of Peshawar announced its annual results for 2012 here on Friday. According to the results, all tops three positions were clinched by the Jinnah College for the Women University of Peshawar. Sidra Saeed Qazi from the Jinnah College for Women, got first position in the B. Sc group, securing 493 marks, Zaiba Said and Hira Iqbal Siddiqi of the same institute stood second and third respectively.
A total of 45,522 male and female candidates appeared in the BA, B.Sc annual examination, of which only 15,643 students were successful with an overall percentage that remained at 34 percent. The annual result was announced by the Controller Examination, University of Peshawar Professor Dr Rasheed Khan during a press conference at the examination office.
He reported that in the Bachelor of Arts Maryam Ali from the Army Burn Hall College got first position by obtaining 431 marks, Sidra Shaheen and Zonaira Akbar of the same institute stood second and third, securing 429 and 422 marks respectively.
He added that the number of students that appeared in the BA, B. Sc part I were around 26,000, of which 7,589 were declared successful with a passing percentage of 29 percent. Similarly, in the second part, more than 9,784 male and female students appeared, of which only 8,054 were successful with an overall percentage of 40. On the occasion, the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Qibla Ayaz distributed certificates and prizes amongst the successful students. He announced free education in the University of Peshawar for all the top three position holders of BA, and B.Sc for post-graduate studies.
Dr Ayaz added that female students had taken all three positions in both the categories, which revealed that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were encouraging female education and that their daughters were second to none in the world in talent and hard work. The ceremony was attended by parents of the position holders, the Registrar Dr Syed Fazli Hadi, Deputy Controller Yorid Ahsan Zia, Director Admissions Professor Dr Hizbullah Khan and others.
