The Ministry of Textile Industry and National Productivity Organisation (NPO) and Ministry of Industries on Monday signed an agreement worth Rs 9.2 million with the objective to establish quality standards within textile industry and determine the level of competitiveness in comparison with the international industries.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) NPO Khawaja Muhammad Yousuf and Secretary Ministry of Textile Industry Shahid Rashid singed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisation. Federal Minister for Textile Industry Makhdoom Shahabuddin also witnessed the signing ceremony.
The basic objective of the project will be to benchmark textile sectors like Ginning, Knit Processing, knit Stitching etc. With the implementation of the project current level of competitiveness in comparison with the international industries especially of Bangladesh, China, India and Vietnam etc will be determined. The study will highlight the factors affecting competitiveness of the sectors and will help the textile policy makers as well as industrialists in preparing the future line of action for the industry.
The NPO has already implemented benchmarking systems for various sectors in past. With the implementation of the project, the expert teams of NPO will be mandated to inculcate best practices and monitor them for a predefined time frame to ensure quality balance.
For this purpose, foreign experts have also paid visits to Pakistan and disseminated Total Productivity Maintenance among industrialists and productivity practitioners.
