Director Anti-Corruption, Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Syed Fayyaz Ali Shah on Tuesday said that a zero-tolerance policy had been adopted against corruption in the province and public servants found guilty in corruption are being dealt with an iron hand. Talking to journalists here in office, he said that over the past eight months, Rs 44.069 million had been recovered from corrupt people and public servants, adding that nine accused had been convicted in corruption cases.
He said that during the same period, the department recovered Rs 44,069,171 as compared to Rs 8.048 million in calendar year 2011. The recovered amount, he said, had been deposited in the national exchequer, adding that 50 corruption cases had been referred to courts, adding that 42 of the accused had been acquitted. Comparing the department's performance with the same period last year, he said only 32 cases had been referred to courts in which 16 persons had been convicted while 39 other had been acquitted.
The department, he said received 663 complaints out of which 83 were referred for departmental inquires, 243 were disposed of and 110 were converted into open inquiries in the past eight months. He said that 343 open inquiries had been initiated, of which 71 had been referred for departmental inquiries, 185 filed and FIRs against 55 accused had been lodged during the same period.
During the current year, he said, 65 cases had been registered, of which 37 had been submitted in courts, 11 referred for judicial inquiries. Majority of the complaints received by the department were related to Revenue, Works and Services, Education, Health, Zakat and Usher departments.
