At least 100 policemen were admitted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) after taking poisonous food served to them at Razzaq Abad Police Training Centre. The condition of three policemen was stated to be critical.
Sources said that three policemen namely Anas, Azhar and Saleem later died. However, no official confirmation has yet been received in this regard till the filing of this report.
According to Medical Superintendent JPMC Dr Seemi Jamali, 38 to 40 policemen were shifted to hospital in unconscious condition, three were said to be in critical state. She did not confirm the death of any policeman.
An enquiry was ordered into the incident by IG Sindh Fayyaz Laghari.
A 2-member committee comprising Additional IG Iqbal Mehmood and In-charge Razzaq Abad Police Training Centre, Shahab Bali has been formed to investigate the matter.
He further said that IG directed the committee to submit the report of the incident in two days. He said that the kitchen of the training centre has been sealed while the Kitchen Inspector has been arrested.
