Vice-Chancellor Punjab University Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran on Sunday disclosed that first time in 130 years' history of the University, 74 seats have been reserved exclusively for Baloch students-one each in all faculties.
Talking to APP here on Sunday, VC said that all the Baloch students, as a goodwill gesture, will be provided free education in all faculties up to Ph.D. He said this historic decision has been taken to promote and strengthen national cohesion and bonds of brotherhood among the people of Balochistan who have always been staunch patriotic Pakistani since the inception of this motherland. He said that Chairman Admission Committee Professor Dr Liaqat Ali has been instructed not only to fully encourage the candidates from Balochistan province but also facilitate them for seeking admission. He said that all newly-inducted Baloch students will also be accommodated in hostels on top priority.
Dr Mujahid Kamran said: "He always attached great importance to the welfare of the students from all provinces especially from Balochistan." He said that PU will provide all possible educational facilities to them during their studies. He said that all faculty members have also been instructed to give special attention to the students coming from other provinces with focus on Baloch students. He said after completion of admission, he will hold reception for all Baloch students.
Reply to a question, VC categorically said that all admissions for forthcoming academic session are being given absolutely on merit without succumbing to any sort of pressure from any quarter. He said that merit speaks as his only son Mustafa Kamran could not get admission on merit and he is now studying in other private university which he added is highest degree of transparency in admission.
Dr Mujahid Kamran said that PU is also providing 100 percent free education of all the 130 special students up to Ph.D. who are enrolled on merit every year against special seats. He said he will hold another important meeting soon with Dr Waqar Chaudhary, patron-in-chief of special students of PU to discuss their charter of demands for better educational facilities to them.
