The unabated incidents of bank heists in September have put a big question mark over the performance of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) as yet another private bank branch was deprived of Rs 0.7 million in broad daylight in the limits of New Town police station.
SHO New Town Inam Ali Jonejo while talking to this correspondent said that at noon, seven unidentified armed robbers, who were said to be Pushtoon and wore Shalwar Kameez, barged into a private bank branch situated at University Road in the jurisdiction of New Town police station. He said the robbers held all staff hostages at gunpoint after snatching a repeater and two pistols from security guards. Later, they went to cash counter and looted Rs 0.7 million and snatched all valuables from the staffers. Moreover, Jonejo said the looters managed to flee in leaps and bounds without destroying security system and added that the security camera systems were working properly, which would help the police to nab the culprits and recovered looted money.
He said they did not take any security guard into custody as the initial investigation proved their innocence. No case was registered till filing of this report. It is pertained to mention that the incidents of bank heists used to be flared up in last quarter of the year.
