Ambassador Abdul Basit met with Ms Petra Ernstberger, Member of the Bundestag and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Group for South Asia in Berlin, where they discussed issues of mutual interest, says a press release issued on Wednesday. The Ambassador briefed Ernstberger about internal developments in Pakistan, underlining that Pakistan had been going through an exciting transformation that would further strengthen democracy, civil society and the culture of pluralism in the country.
The last three amendments to the constitution were significant and bode well for democracy and federalism. Pakistan's economy was also showing signs of macro stability. He said Pakistan was destined to become a regional economic hub as intra-region connectivity and economic activities were gaining momentum.
Ambassador Basit also apprised Ms Ernstberger of Pakistan's efforts towards promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan. He said peace in Afghanistan was a sine qua non for regional stability. Pakistan would, therefore, continue making sincere and focused efforts aimed at promoting a genuine political process in Afghanistan that was owned and led by the people of Afghanistan.-PR
