NEW DELHI: Three people died when an Indian Air Force fighter jet crashed through the roof of a house in a village in the northern border state of Rajasthan on Monday, the air force said on Monday.

The single-seater MiG-21 crashed after the pilot experienced an onboard emergency and ejected, the Indian Air Force said in a statement.

“The aircraft wreckage fell on a house in Bahlol Nagar in Hanumangarh District, unfortunately leading to the loss of three lives,” it said.

India to ground MiG-21 fighter jets by 2025: report

The pilot ejected safely and sustained minor injuries in the process, the air force said, adding that a court of inquiry had been set up to investigate the cause of the accident.

India has plans to ground its entire fleet of the Soviet-era fighter jet by 2025, local media reported last year.

The MiG-21, dubbed “the flying coffin” by the Indian media, has been the country’s key fighter jet since its introduction in 1963 but has been plagued by crashes in recent years.

India originally acquired 874 Mig-21, out of which 657 were locally assembled by HAL, which is state owned enterprise. Full of corruption & compromise quality over profit. They purchase non-OEM (cheap) parts from all over the World, including China. Result is obvious, some 400 Mig-21 crashed, in last 60 yrs, killing almost 200 fighter pilots. Su-30MKI is also have serious maintenance problems & from time to time crash & grounded. Now a new contract is being signed for maintenance of French Rafale fighter jets with Tata... Tata bye bye !

@Usman, The Genius of the MIG crash model,is such that, the GOI conned the Indian Supreme Court to state that the Court had no ken to go into the pricing and corruption of the Rafale deal,The GOI stated that the Court should ONLY look into the process of procurement and pricing (As the process was laid down and planned,by the scamsters) The Origin of the planting of this seed of genius of crashing MIGs, into the brain of the IAF honchos, Politicians and bureaucrats – are the ARMS DEALERS,WHO ARE CAMPED IN NEW DELHI. It is these arms dealers who make the IAF acquisition strategy, and also fund, defense think tanks in India and political parties. These arms dealers are funded by INT agencies and Global arms suppliers So the MIG crashes are a part of a PLAN – and NOT random chance or training issues or engine failures By deferring the MIG replacements interminably, the IAF and GOI are in a position of NO CHOICE and NO NEGOTIATION capacity.SAMIR SARDANA

@Haq, The state of the IAF is evident in that , the IAF had peddled lies to explain the destruction of an IAF chopper, during the PAF air raid (a year ago) , later officially confirmed,to have been caused by the ADS of the Indian GBR inspite of IFF active on the choppers (possibly blocked or paralysed by PAF/IAF EW/ Jammers). In essence, the Indian ADS shot down a IAF chopper (which was locked and loaded) ,on the Indian side of the border, in Bugdam ! The Rafale fighters have ALREADY BEEN BLOWN by PAF pilots in the Middle East.So unless the IAF is buying a customised version for combat with the PAF and the PLAF – this is another disaster IT IS ALSO A FACT THAT THE INDIAN AIRCRAFT CRASH INVESTIGATION AUTHORITY , HAS OPENLY DOUBTED THE CAPABILITIES OF THE INDIAN AIRFORCE TO CONDUCT AN IMPARTIAL AND INDEPENDENT COI THE IAF AIR CRASH INVESTIGATION OF THE IAF IS DELIBERATELY UNDERSTAFFED ,UNDERSKILLED, UNSKILLED AND COMPROMISED TO SUIT THE AGENDA OF VESTED INTERESTS.SAMIR SARDANA

IT IS A FACT IN THE PUBLIC DOMAIN THAT THE INDIAN STATE IS NOW SHIFTING ITS PROCUREMENT TO THE EU – AND THIS HAS ALSO COINCIDED WITH SOME UNEXPLAINED MIG 29 CRASHES (RECENTLY) ON RUSSIAN CARRIERS – AND THE FACT THAT A FEW YEARS AGO ,THE USAF BOUGHT 12 – RUSSIAN MIG 29s – from a EASTERN EU nation –AND HAS DISSECTED THE MIGS (with GERMAN AID) INDIAN MIGs crash at the minimum once in 60-90 days – and not in border areas,PLAF crashes Indian Sukhois and Choppers at will in the North East – especially in Arunachal and Sikkim – by EMP and EW – for which Indians have no Counter measures. In essence, the PLAF is conversant with all the IAF and ADS platforms in the Eastern Theatre. AND PLAF is using its own Jets made for their specific needs – & no IAF pilot has even a reasonable idea about the capabilities of the latest Chinese Jets & the skills of their pilots. And the IAF will learn soon, the hard way. Data on IAF crashes in India is TOP SECRET and no one knows how and why the planes crash !

@Sohail, W.R.T MIGs MADE BY HAL – WHEREIN THE IAF HAS ACCUSED THE HAL OF POOR QUALITY & THE HAL HAS ACCUSED THE IAF OF INEPTITUDE & POOR TRAINING – IT MIGHT BE NOTED THAT ALMOST ALL EU/US & RUSSIAN AIRCRAFT SUPPLIERS HAVE REFUSED TO ALLOW HAL TO DO A LICENSED MANUFACTURE IN INDIA THIS IS A TESTIMONY TO THE DEFENSE MANUFACTURING IN INDIA & THE FACT THAT FOREIGN AIRCRAFT MAKERS DO NOT WANT TO DAMAGE THEIR BR& BY ALLOWING A MAKE IN INDIA OPERATION & also,THAT THEY DO NOT TRUST HAL WITH THEIR TECHNOLOGY SECRETS MIG crashes also SUITS the IAF honchos wishes to make direct imports & NOT insist on tech transfer to HAL & DRDO – as IAF has no faith on Indians, & it provides post retirement benefits to the IAF honchos & employments to the kids of the IAF honchos. Jet acquisition, being a technical matter,THE TECHNICAL CLEARANCE IS ALL THAT COUNTS – & that is where the money is made. The MIG crashes, JUSTIFY the TECHNICAL NEED for aircraft acquisition, to SUIT the DESIRES of the IAF honchos.
