ISLAMABAD: Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI), Monday, signed an agreement to collaborate to further the cause of nutrition in Pakistan.

According to the details, Dr Suleri, executive director of SDPI said that nutritional security was the most important aspect which was threatened by a variety of factors, of which, the most important were climate change and consumption of micro-plastics.

Plastics are highly resistant to degradation and sustain in the environment for a prolonged period resulting in getting way into the human food chain.

Micro-plastic exposure to humans is caused by foods of both animal and plant origin, food additives, drinks, and plastic food packaging. He concluded that this year, Environment Day’s theme is plastic pollution. By reducing micro-plastic consumption, we can ensure proper utilisation of food consumed by humans and avoid plastic toxicity.
