Beleaguered PTI relishes IMF meeting

  • PTI’s information secretary Raoof Hasan says the meeting is proof of the party’s importance in the country’s political setup
Published July 9, 2023

ISLAMABAD: The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) delegation’s meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman is proof of the party’s importance in the country’s political setup, PTI’s information secretary Raoof Hasan said on Saturday.

“The meeting of the IMF delegation proves the political relevance of PTI,” he said, adding that it established PTI’s political relevance beyond any doubt.

Hasan alleged that the worst state brutality was being used to neutralize his party; however, the world was eager to work with the PTI chairman as he would be the next elected prime minister of the country.

IMF team meets PTI leadership at Zaman Park in Lahore

Hasan’s remarks came after a meeting between an IMF team and PTI chairman at his residence in Lahore yesterday, in which the two — as per PTI leader Hammad Azhar — discussed the staff-level agreement that the IMF reached with the government for a 9-month $3 billion SBA.

The PTI leader also said they wish to stress the importance of programs to protect the lower-income segments of the population from high inflation.

It’s sad when IMF , we hear, meets different political parties, to remind them to obey the Pakistan constitution. Aren’t all these political parties embarrassed by that ? Or will they repremind IMF on some other issue and not accept they are all equally responsible for our country’s bankcrupsy.

IK hangs on to anything which shows he is important. He forgets that it is IMF policy to meet various political leaders of the country before approval of a program. Sadly his action on fuel price caused enormous loss to Pakistan reputation and track record with IMF resulting in delay of clearance of the program and suffering of Pakistanis.

There was nothing beleaguered or relishing about the meeting, but shame for the system because the IMF and the world know our pre-historic antics to persecute the opposition. What's actually beleaguered is the fact that money laundering and loan write-off cases do not make the news, nor does doling out perks and privileges for everyone who is remotely related to the leaders.

IMF believes that PTI is a party of fasadis and gundas so they better not take chances and as a cautionary measure talk to them too. Nothing more! I don't know why PTI supporters are going gaga over this.

@Abdullah, stop listening to propagandists paid by Sharifs. You and your ancestors continue to be brainwashed by thieves. Sahiwal Coal Blunder and Orange Debt Line is what destroyed CPEC thanks to criminal Sharifs. Stop being a slave.

@Pakistani1, somehow the action of IK is affecting 1.5 years later lol. Nothing stopped the PDM govt from hiking these rates from day 1 of power. If the blame is still on IK then people need lots of introspection into what they want from Democracy.
