ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is facing loss of more than Rs60 billion annually due to smuggling of more than 2.81 billion litres of oil from Iran to Pakistan, in which 90 government officials and 29 politicians are also involved.

It is reported in the media that the Civil Intelligence Agency has submitted its report on smuggling of oil and dollar to the Prime Minister House, in which it has been revealed that the proceeds from oil smuggling are also used by terrorists.

According to the report of the civil intelligence organisation, as many as 995 petrol pump stations across the country are engaged in the sale of smuggled Iranian oil.

Smuggled Iranian diesel seized

The report also revealed that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) vehicles are also involved in the transportation of the smuggled Iranian oil. Oil from Iran is smuggled in Iranian vehicles and comes to Pakistan. Iranian oil smuggling vehicles are called Zamyad. It is further said that 76 sellers in spaces adjoining the border had been fascinated with oil smuggling.

The report said, “In Pakistan, total 722 currency dealers have been involved in ‘hawala hundi’ business and Punjab have maximum 205 hawala hundi dealers. In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) 183 and in Sindh 176 hawala dealers are running this business.”

Moreover, 104 dealers are working in Balochistan and 37 dealers are involved in hawala hundi business in Azad Kashmir and 17 dealers working in federal capital Islamabad.

It is worth mentioning here that the caretaker federal government, along with provincial governments, has launched a nationwide crackdown on those elements involved in large-scale hoarding of dollars and other commodities.

Well well well. I am beginning to like this caretaker government. At least some of the corruption will abate.

No holy cow involved in $ and oil smuggling. As usual all headlines are framed against businessmen and politicians.

Surprised at the omission of a few other characters involved with the rest of these nominated leaders and public servants. None of these criminals will see any court proceedings nor their involvement will be proven and obviously, they won't be convicted or see jail time. If they have shinning India, we too have shinning rule of law and its implementation.

The kind of idiocy I have seen in Pakistan, I doubt the 'real' rackeeters in 'institutions' are named who have been facilitating actively or implicitly this illegal racket! I doubt it. Just another eyewash in a long list of eyewashes.

Politicians knew this but they were manipulated by their counterparts to stop the crackdown so shahbaz and co gave the mandate to care taker setup and passed the bills that support this action. Now they can relax because crackdown is going on and nobody can ask them to stop this. Masterstroke

Without top notch patronage smuggling of an item is not possible. Honest custom officers are sidelined or they leave the lucrative job because of filthy corrupt enviroment. Border security personnel are involved, a chain of different departments officials get their share. Pakistan is an unfortunate country with such a filthy system full of corrupts. In PR CHINA smugglers, custom officials and purchasers of smuggled goods are subject to death penalty.

We are talking about fuel which has to be transported in vehicles over hundreds of kilometers and billions in corruption. A huge number of people and authorities from the border to every checkpost are responsible.

Strange that smugglers can penetrate the heavily guarded borders. I cannot expect our security forces to be sleeping on the job. This is an attempt to malign out forces by spreading fake news that there is smuggling

@Abu, What will you do by disclosing? Nothing will happen, no political change comes unless ISI and Generals decide on it. Pakistan is run by ISI / baradri / fuedalism system. Or are you planning an uprising?
